ato in Olanda, Jan Willem Jansen ha studiato musica con Jan Warmink, Willem Mesdag e Wim van Beek. Nel 1977 ha conseguito il diploma di solista al Conservatorio Reale dell'Aia e ha perfezionato lo studio del clavicembalo con Ton Koopman ad Amsterdam. Si è poi trasferito in Francia e ha lavorato con Xavier Darasse, di cui è diventato collaboratore pedagogico al Conservatorio di Tolosa.

È anche co-fondatore del dipartimento di musica antica di quest'Istituto e, insieme a Michel Bouvard, è responsabile del nuovo dipartimento superiore "Organi e Clavicembali".
Oltre al ruolo di insegnante, la sua attività di interprete lo ha portato a suonare con i migliori ensemble barocchi europei, in particolare La Chapelle Royale a Parigi, Collegium Vocale a Gent (Philippe Herreweghe), Hesperion XX a Barcellona (Jordi Savall), Les Sacqueboutiers e l'Ensemble barocco di Limoges (Christophe Coin). È anche titolare dell'organo Ahrend del Musée des Augustins e della Basilica di Notre-Dame de la Daurade a Tolosa.

In occasione del Festival Toulouse les Orgues del 1997, ha registrato nella collezione Temperaments l'integrale delle opere per organo di Bruhns integrate da cantate dello stesso compositore eseguite dal Parlement de Musique sotto la direzione di Martin Gester. Nel 1998 ha registrato Cabanilles sull'organo storico della Chiesa di San Pablo a Saragozza.

T

he Dutch organist Jan Willem Jansen pursues musical studies with Jan Warmink, Willem Mesdag and Wim van Beek. In 1977 he obtained the diploma of soloist from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and perfected his harpsichord skills with Ton Koopman in Amsterdam. He then moved to France and worked with Xavier Darasse, of whom he became the pedagogical collaborator at the Toulouse Conservatory.
He is also co-founder of the early music department of this establishment, and, alongside Michel Bouvard, is responsible for the new superior department "Organs and Harpsichords".

In addition to his role as a teacher, his activity as a performer has led him to play with the best European baroque ensembles, notably La Chapelle Royale in Paris, Le Collegium Vocale in Ghent (Philippe Herreweghe), Hesperion XX in Barcelona (Jordi Savall ), Les Sacqueboutiers, and the Baroque Ensemble of Limoges (Christophe Coin). He is also titular of the Ahrend organ of the Musée des Augustins and of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Daurade in Toulouse.

On the occasion of the 1997 Toulouse les Orgues Festival, he recorded in the Temperaments collection the complete organ works of Bruhns supplemented by cantatas by the same composer performed by Le Parlement de Musique under the direction of Martin Gester. In 1998, he recorded Cabanilles on the historic organ of the Church of San Pablo in Zaragoza.
